Delta Science Modules Finding the Moon Complete Kit, Edition 3, Grades K to 1
Description
Comprehensive, affordable and effective, Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) Kits provide an inquiry-based, hands-on approach to teaching a specific science topic through the use of activities and investigative equipment. In the Delta Science Modules Finding the Moon Complete Kit, students will get to discover that Earth’s nearest neighbor in space is far more interesting than any storybook Moon. Through direct observations and modeling exercises, students will learn that the Moon is visible day and night, that it rises and sets, appears to change shape, casts shadows, reflects light, and lacks air and water. Students will record daily drawings of the full lunar cycle in a four-week Moon Journal, and then demonstrate the phases of the Moon and its far side. Students will also form craters on a “moon dust” surface and handle substances very similar to moon soil and rocks.
Along with the kit activities, the Finding the Moon Delta Science First Reader introduces students to what we see in the sky and to Earth’s closest neighbor, the Moon. Students will: discover what makes the Moon appear to shine and why the Moon appears to have different shapes; read about craters, seas, and other parts of the Moon’s environment; be introduced to Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the Moon; and will also compare the size of the Moon to that of Earth and the Sun.
Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) consist of a total of 59 assorted kits ranging from Grade K to 8 levels, each with a step-by-step teacher guide, student readers, 12-14 interconnected activities, and enough equipment to serve up to 32 students. Select kits also contain a pre-paid coupon for Living materials. Educators have the flexibility to have students follow the detailed activities that are provided, or customize their own curriculum plan with the equipment provided.
