Delta Science Modules Earth, Moon, and Sun Complete Kit, Edition 3, Grades 6 to 8
Description
Comprehensive, affordable and effective, Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) Kits provide an inquiry-based, hands-on approach to teaching a specific science topic through the use of activities and investigative equipment. Delta Science Modules Earth, Moon, and Sun Complete Kit will get your class to learn to distinguish between the apparent motions of the Sun and Moon versus the actual motion of Earth. Students will start with recording daily observations about the time and position of sunrise and sunset, shape of the Moon, daytime visibility, and elevation. Their data will reflect interactions among Earth, its Moon, and the Sun that explain such phenomena as day and night, seasons, Moon phases, length of day, tides, and more. Scale models of the solar system will demonstrate the massive distances and the relative sizes of the planets. Finally, the last activity of the kit puts students onboard famous ocean voyages, as they rely on celestial navigation to stay on course.
Along with the kit activities, the Earth, Moon, and Sun Delta Science Reader (and complementary Skillbuilders booklet that helps students practice reading/grammar/writing/vocabulary skills with the content from the Delta Science Reader) will have your students learn and read more about Earth’s place in space, the forces that affect our planet, and the Earth movements that bring about day and night, years, and seasons. Students will discover how the Sun is similar to and different from other stars and find out about its composition and the source of its heat and light energy. They will also: learn about Earth’s nearest neighbor in space, the Moon, and how its motion relative to Earth causes Moon phases, tides, and eclipses; be introduced to Copernicus and the heliocentric theory through a biographical sketch; and finally, review a field guide to the planets that summarizes important data and interesting facts about our solar system.
Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) consist of a total of 59 assorted kits ranging from Grade K to 8 levels, each with a step-by-step teacher guide, student readers, 12-14 interconnected activities, and enough equipment to serve up to 32 students. Select kits also contain a pre-paid coupon for Living materials. Educators have the flexibility to have students follow the detailed activities that are provided, or customize their own curriculum plan with the equipment provided.
